September 22, 2022 meeting, started at 5:36pm
In attendance: Lori Westbrook, Ann Marie Yager, Ashley Austin, Stacie Zimowski, Muyly Tiroletto, Renee DeCormier, Brianna O’Tooe, Erikak Relihan, Gina Olearczlk, Katie Bailey, Jill Boggis, Dorothy Ruggiero, Julie Fitzgerald, Kelley Burgess, Melyssa Brown-Porter, Laura Fox, Ellie Olko, Deepak Achenya, Brittany Dwyer, Melissa Mucci, Margot Martello
Brittany Dwyer welcomed everyone and stated she is hoping to revamp and revitalize the PTO this year. There will be one meeting a month on the 2nd Wednesday in the SES Media Center. High schoolers can earn credit for babysitting so that is being looked into.
Election of officers: Interim president will be Brittany Dwyer – she will get everything running but would like someone to take the position. Vice President will be Dorothy Ruggiero and Treasurer Sara Reissig. Offer was put out for secretary with no takers so in the interim Rebecca Joyal will continue the role. Marketing will be handled by Dorothy Ruggiero and for the time being fundraisers by Brittany Dwyer.
Book Fair: The MBA book fair is 9/29 & 9/29 – volunteers are needed and Dorothy will create a sign up. Students go during LA and parents go during conferences. Teachers get free books, social workers get free books, pens, journals. SES book fair is 12/7-12/9 during the half days and during parent teacher conferences. Volunteers are needed and Dorothy will create a sign up. New this year: we have to charge sales tax so that will be confusing – Brittany will communicate to parents. 10% of book sales goes back into the schools as books to the media center and each teacher receives $25 to spend (those will be tax free)
Fundraisers: Spirit Wear starts 9/23, there will be one for SES and one for MBA with each school name. All orders will be done online and delivered to the school. Brittany and some volunteers will distribute to classes. It should end mid-October and be delivered mid-November.
Square One Art at SES – the art teachers will coordinate with PTO to have drawings done in class. PTO mails in the artwork 10/20 then in November each student will receive stickers and a catalog of their drawing. All ordering is done online and will ship right to the students house.
Would like to do one fundraiser a month and asked for ideas: Munsons, Raffle baskets for parent conferences, socks (were popular but timely), Harlem Wizards (was large success previously), Boosterthon (they come into school and run it, families pledge money for their child to do laps), Color Run, Holiday Shop (kids buy presents and school wraps them)
Open Houses: SES is 9/22 and MBA is 9/28. Volunteers would be appreciated and the table will have our banner, spiritwear (MBA), and information on Box Tops & Amazon
Halloween Happenings: Or “Harvest” Happenings, have done it many different ways. Brittany will check the status of the doors that were made years ago. All candy and trinkets have to be donated. PTO does all the leg work, student council can bag candy. What we do depends on volunteers. A committee is being formed.
Committee Chairs: a lot of volunteer opportunities this year with the Book Fair, Halloween Happenings, Teacher Appreciation Lunch, Field Day, Sundaes & Songs. In the October 12 meeting, committees will be discussed.
Margot Martello added that MBA would like to put together more events with the help of the PTO.
Meeting adjourned at 6:27pm
