- SES by Jennifer Oliver—due to life-threatening food allergies, no external food in classrooms will be permitted outside of the 4 approved classroom parties, where specific food will be requested. Hand-sanitizing protocols are in place. This will affect PTO events, related to food. Allergy-free lunch tables are in the cafeteria.
- MBA by Clay Krevolin: “safe snack” list is in place. Allergy-free lunch tables are in the cafeteria.
- Impacts on events—we need to be thinking “outside the box” for food alternatives at events
- Committee Report
- General Business
- Review Openings on the Committee List—Emily will be sending out an email/paper copy asking for volunteers, in addition to posting on Facebook
- Communications
- Facebook page/ website status—posting only
- Need volunteer for this function
- Opt in for e-mail with PTO? – classify under communications?
- Flyer needed
- Cultural Enrichment
- Updates—Angela Hewitt distributed the Cultural Enrichment schedule for this year and gave a brief description of each program. Budget approved by members.
- Jennifer Oliver requested that the PTO fund a bike safety, BMX, anti-bullying program that cost approximately $1,000. It is an energetic and engaging program. This would be the reward for earning 100,000 tickets for PBIS. This was well received. Mrs. Oliver explained the Positive Behavior Incentive System and our positive behavior “shout outs.” These are recognitions for independently following school rules and demonstrating caring behaviors.
- Pat Clark (SES media specialist) had an offer of a free author visit by Kate Hanscom. We will schedule her later in the year.
- Fundraising--
- Review Calendar
- Fall – Butterbraids & Opt Out: these have gone out. These have to be picked up within 48 hours
- Winter – Coupon Books & Gift Cards : suggestion was made to get these out by Black Friday
- Spring – Fun Run/ Walk for kids. Students get sponsors. Held during recess. This will be tied in with school programs by SES and MBA P.E. teachers. Suggestion was made by Stacey to have a “walk to school” fund-raiser. Perhaps from Connor’s Park? Have students pay a “toll” and get some kind of reward—DD certificates?? This seems to be an easy way to raise funds.
- Raffle baskets for conference times were discussed. Requested items from parents will be dropped off at Stacey’s house.
- Other?
- Events/ Programs
- Discuss Current calendar/ planned/ suggested
- Open House Nights: Jenn Hale is chair. We will only offer mini water bottles. It was suggested we have 6 cases. Megan Emrick offered to help get water. PTO and scouting tables will be in the cafeteria. It starts at 5 for K-2. PTO will be in the cafeteria by 5:30. SES volunteers worked at MBA’s Open House, it would be great if MBA parents could work at the SES Open House.
- Halloween Happenings – date 10/17/14 : We need an additional co-chair for this. If we don’t get a volunteer co-chair, this event can not happen. This can no longer be focused on candy!! For Treat Street, in lieu of candy, maybe pencils, stickers, etc.? Think Oriental Trading! Volunteers needed!! Rudy Haraga has volunteered to help Dawn with an Excel spreadsheet to keep volunteers organized. This list needs to go out SOON!! Amy suggested we separate games from a DJ—cafeteria/gym. Perhaps this would separate the younger children from the older students, allowing the younger children to play the games. Heather Modzelewski has offered to co-chair. YEAH!!
- Book Fairs: vouchers for students on reduced lunch? To be discussed…
- Other
- PTA to PTO Transfer
- By Laws – Review & vote to approve. Motion to approve by Angie. 2nd. by Megan Emrick.
- Needed for 501(c)(3) filing
- Bank Accounts—as above
- General Discussion
- Next Meeting: Meetings will be second Wednesday of the month.
- Questions/ Suggestions: Suggestion was made by Stacey to create an incentive for parents to come to meetings, volunteer at events. Some kind of reward for the classroom who gets the most parental involvement in the PTO. Maybe the parents would get a “no homework pass” or a PBIS ticket for students. Mr. Krevolin suggested starting each meeting with a “celebration of learning” to involve parents and teachers.
- Adjournment at 8:15. Motion by Emily, 2nd. by Angie.
